A COOKING demonstration and health talk was hosted by the spouse of the Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam yesterday. Samira Makanari, who is the First Honorary Vice President of the International Women Club Brunei (IWCB), hosted the event at her residence in Kg Sg Hanching.
The event was mostly attended by members of IWCB, to which it began with a cooking demonstration of popular middle-eastern dishes, such as Hummus and Mamool Pastry. According to Samira Makanari, the event serves to strengthen relationships and establish new friendships, especially for members of IWCB.
Meanwhile, Peck Lee, IWCB Directors of Activities, pointed out that the cooking demonstration and other activities are usually done every two months on a voluntary basis, where apart from strengthening ties amongst them, the activities are carried out to raise funds.
This is done through the fees that members pay to participate in such activities, where the fees collected are then put into the club's fund to be used when the need to help an organisation arises.
The activity yesterday also saw a health talk on Osteoarthritis of the knee by the Head of Department and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Department of Orthopaedics, JPMC, Dr Sonali Pande.
In a brief interview, Dr Pande noted that her talk focuses on the problem within the ageing population, as well as on the steps that can be taken to reduce its effects.
This includes altering one's lifestyle before resorting to medication and surgery.
