APRIL 28th 2018 – On May 11th, 2018, in conjunction with International Nurses’ Day, The Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) will be hosting a JPMC Open Day to honour the contributions, devotion and passion of nurses, midwives and other health professionals towards the delivery of healthcare. This international event is celebrated every May 12th on the day of birth of Florence Nightingale and will be hosted in location within the JPMC facility at the JPMC General Ward, CME Room and Aerobics Hall Level 1, JPMC.
The JPMC Open Day will feature free BMI check-ups, blood pressure and glucose tests, a blood donation drive and an educational health talk. In addition, JPMC services will be showcased through clinical stalls and exhibitions. Additional areas for mini games, face painting, caricature, and henna tattoos will also be available for members of the public to participate in.
This year’s JPMCs festive event will have a series of exciting activities to be featured, and will be an eye-opener for the members of the public. JPMC aims to revolutionise the health industry in Brunei with the objective to educate and providing the perspective of how the hospital operates to everyone. Through public interaction and engagement, JPMC have setup various healthcare studios to visit and designed to both entertain and educate people of all ages.
Primarily, the healthcare studio opening is part of the course on the JPMC Open Day activity as the healthcare studio hopes to promote creative thinking and imagination, anyone can become a doctor, nurse, hospital aide, surgeons and more. Everyone can choose from a range of medical props and practice their own skills and develop a persona. Additionally, the Outpatient Department, which plays a prominent role in the hospital that will feature how it is designed to serve people efficiently and effectively. The Operating Theatre studio will feature patient safety in surgical environment and available surgical instruments for people to experience.
The general ward will be commissioned and open all-day for a tour in addition to interact with the nurses who are committed to provide safe and a positive experience for the patients who are admitted. Part of the healthcare studio will also include a tour around the ambulance stationed at the assembly area, this will be entertaining and educational for the children, to allow them to be familiarised with the ambulance and the role of each staff does during an emergency. The aforementioned roleplay and tour is only, “scratching the surface” as there are more exciting activities to do at JPMC during the event. In addition, families and friends can get their photos taken at a photo-booth as a souvenir to bring home.
Complementing the day’s event, food vendors such as Happy Cream, Magnum, XimplyChriz, Boost Juice, Energy Kitchen and Brunei Halal Foods and many more will be available to entice taste buds of the public in an exciting and commemorative day filled with scrumptious, mouth-watering delicacies.
For students and graduates who are interested in pursuing a profession in nursing with one of Brunei’s premier private healthcare institutions, this will be an opportunity to meet exhibitors for information on their career path and opportunities.
Members of the public are invited to the JPMC Open Day at no cost. During the event, coupons will be sold for the games and activities for BND1 where proceedings will be given to a charitable cause.
The JPMC Open Day will be one of many events that will be organized throughout the next few weeks. Prior to this, members of public are also invited to a JPMC “Spinning Charity Event” with the aim of introducing members of the public the art of cutting-edge stationary cycling focusing on endurance, strength and interval exercising while contributing to a charity.
For those who are wishing to participate, the event will be carried out on two dates: Friday, May 4th 2018, with an entrance fee of $20 for 60 minutes and opens from 4:00pm to 5:00pm; and on Sunday, May 13th 2018, where the entrance fee will be $28 for 90 minutes and opens from 10:00am to 11:30am. Both JPMC Spinning Events will be held and with support from the team at Bounce & Cycle XL, Cycling Studio, Rimba.
All proceeds collected from these events will be donated to ABLE Brunei (Down Syndrome Association) in support for their many programs to train, educate and give care to children with Down Syndrome.
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12th with this year’s theme: Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Health is a Human Right. This will be an to be actively celebrating with the nursing community as key players in providing passionate healthcare services, safe practices and promoting a healthy lifestyle as key qualities in healthcare.
