21 May 2017 – The Jerudong Park Medical Centre in collaboration with Sengenics Sdn Bhd hosted an In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) forum yesterday held at the Parkview Hotel, Jerudong with more than 150 guests present.
Over the last four decades, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) has helped millions of couples get pregnant, even when the fertility odds seemed to be against them. IVF is a technically complex medical treatment. We believe that it is important to provide the public with information about IVF success rates and treatment options.
"Having a sufficient number of mature egg cells is one of the key steps to obtaining excellent results in a cycle of in-vitro fertilization (IVF)." Dr Chitra Karat, Head and Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department and Reproductive Medicine Unit of JPMC quoted during her presentation. "Huge progress has been made in the field of assisted reproduction and these steps forward will always be thought of as historical milestones in medicine." added Dr Chitra Karat.
Also present during the forum was Dr. Dzaidenny Muslim, Operation Director of Sengenics Sdn Bhd who talked on "Pre-implantation Genetic Screening"
"Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) is the best way to embark on IVF journey. It identifies chromosomal errors in embryos to enhance IVF success rates by only implanting embryos that are normal. Pregnancy rates increased from 36% to 79% and miscarriage rates are reduced." highlighted Dr Dzaidenny.
The forum was then followed by a question-and-answer session with the speakers as well as video presentation on a virtual journey through JPMC Reproductive Medicine Unit followed by refreshments for the guests.
Topics that were brought up included challenges faced by men and women to conceive, fertility treatment options and lifestyle management to improve success with treatment.
The forum was also supported by Merck Pte Ltd, Singapore.
The Reproductive Medicine Unit is open every Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, and every Saturday from 8am to 12noon. The services offered in the department include Sub-fertile Couple Assessment, Trans Vaginal Scanning, In-vitro Fertilization (IVF), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Sperm Aspiration (TESA, PESA), and Treatments such as Ovulation Induction (OI), Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and Artificial Reproduction Techniques (ART).
