IN ACKNOWLEDGING the achievements from a group activity project by its stroke patients, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) hosted a certificate presentation ceremony yesterday at the CME Room of JPMC.

Organised by the hospital's Rehabilitation Department, the guest of honour of the event, who also presented the certificates, was a member of the Board of Directors Awg Abd Lattif Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Md Yusuf.

Among others who were also present were members of Board of Directors, Ahmad Jefri Abd Rahman, Executive and Medical Director Dato Dr Haji Mohd Isham Haji Jaafar, senior management and staff as well as the family members of patients.

Yesterday's event initiated with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa Selamat by Ustaz Norradisham from the Brunei Cancer Centre.

This then followed with a welcoming note from Vivian Tie, Head of Rehabilitation Department. Vivian noted that the hosting of the event served to acknowledge and celebrate the achievement of their stroke patients who participated in their Hari Raya themed rehabilitation programme.

The programme includes baking cakes and traditional Kueh, picture frame making, decorating the neurological wards and the construction of the Replica of Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque for the preparation of the upcoming Hari Raya festivity.

"Through this activity, not only is our aim to utilise this opportunity to improve the functional capacity of our patients but to show them and their family ways of overcoming their disability so that they can participate in anything as long as they wish to; such as those related to this joyous festive season."

She further added that to be able to attempt and complete the tasks assigned by their rehabilitation therapists without giving up, is such as great accomplishment.

Prior to the certificate presentation ceremony, the event made way for a patient with speech impairments who has now recovered, Tee Hock Woo, to deliver his personal speech and also to speak on behalf of his fellow stroke patients.

Tee Hock Woo expressed appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Brunei Darussalam for giving him and his fellow stroke patients specialised medical treatment through the medical team of the Brunei Neuroscience Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) and also continue to recover through rehabilitation with the Rehabilitation Department of JPMC.

The certificate presentation ceremony then proceeded to the launching of the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque replica at the reception area of JPMC but prior to that guests had the opportunity to tour the Rehabilitation Department and witness the patients perform a demonstration of their activities.

These activities included separating the egg yolk and the egg white with only one hand, how to make picture frames and the dome of the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque was made.

The guest of honour also officiated the launching of the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque replica, which is mainly made out of cardboard measuring 55 inches in width and 45 inches in height and will be featured until after Hari Raya.
