Jerudong, Brunei-Muara: In acknowledging the achievements of rehab patients, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) held a certificate presentation ceremony to their patients after successfully completing the yearend programme called "We Can" Fest Programme throughout the month of December. According to a press release, the event took place at the Rehabilitation Studio, Level 1 of JPMC. The event was organised by the hospital's Rehabilitation Department.
Present at the ceremony was the guest of honour, Abdul Latiff bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Md Yusuf, a member of JPMC's Board of Directors, who later awarded the certificates to the patients. Also in attendance were Dato Dr Isham Jaafar, Executive and Medical Director, Senior Management and Rehabilitation staff of JPMC, as well as family members of the patients.
To bless the event, recitations of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa Selamat were read by Ustaz Norradisham from The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC). A welcome speech was presented by Vivian Tie, the Head of Rehabilitation Department who also shared an insight of the programme.
"The five-week programme gives the opportunity for our patients to showcase their efforts and progresses. We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate them for their hard work and determination in completing the programme excellently," said Vivian Tie in her speech.
The programme is a collaborative team effort between stroke and cancer patients from Brunei Neuro-Stroke Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) and The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), especially the individuals who experienced physical and vocal disabilities.
A video presentation showing the patients' journey in their preparation for the dance and musical performance for the past five weeks was also shown. Thereafter, the guests were entertained with live performances by the rehab patients and staff of the Rehabilitation Department.
The Rehabilitation Department has a vital role in understanding the needs and goals of their patients. As desired, the department has been conducting a series of activities, for instance, baking sessions prior to Hari Raya, creating handmade crafts, building a replica of Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque and so on.
