Job Summary

Provides technical support in the design, fabricating fitting and modification of prosthetic devices (artificial limbs) and orthotic devices (braces and support) for patients according to the specifications and under the guidance of the Category I or II prosthetic and orthotic clinicians.

Educational Requirements

  • HNTec in Laboratory Science, Science Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Welding, Metal Fabrication, Electronics Engineering, Building Craft, Carpentry or any relevant area.

Principles Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and fabricating custom prosthetics or orthotics devices as designed by the Category I and II Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinician
  • Perform bench alignment of the device to the specifications of the Category I or II Prosthetic & Orthotic Clinicians
  • Perform finishing operations on the prosthesis and orthoses as directed
  • Report any pertinent information regarding the device to the Category I or II Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinician
  • Take part in follow up procedures in respect of maintenance, repair and replacement of the appliance
  • Responsible for the care and economical use of workshop materials, equipment and tools
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment
  • Maintain appropriate record keeping of workshop activities
  • Report to clinicians about special needs regarding workshop materials, equipment or tools
  • May supervise and take part in training of junior P&O Technicians
