Job Summary

  • Provide a high level of expertise in the management of patients including diagnosis, management and treatment of complex cancer patients through maintenance of collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties.
  • Perform and lead clinical evaluations, formulating an appropriate treatment plan including surgery and follow-up care where appropriate.
  • Possess competencies to aid clinical governance, service development, teaching and training personnel.
  • Lead in departmental leadership by helping to shape policies, contribute to continuous improvement, and ensure operational efficiency within the Medical Oncology Department.

Educational Requirements

  • Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) or equivalent in the field of Medical Oncology is required.
  • Exit qualification of Part 1 and Part 2 Membership of the Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, Masters in Medicine or equivalent and work/training experience in other relevant field is required.
  • Postgraduate or Vocational training or equivalent in Oncology, Primary Health Care, Family Medicine or other relevant specialty is required.
  • Possess a Primary Medical Degree, MBBS or equivalent from an institute recognized by the Brunei Medical Board (BMB) of Negara Brunei Darussalam is required.
  • Professional Membership or Fellowship such as Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), or equivalent with work/training experience in the field Medical Oncology and/or other relevant field is highly desirable.
  • Candidates who have equivalent qualifications through education and/or experience may be considered for assignment to this position, at the Management’s discretion.

Professional Requirements

Licensure and Certifications

  • Eligible for registration with the Brunei Medical Board (BMB).
  • Registerable and possess a valid annual practicing license issued by previous country of practice or home country.
  • Medical Practice Registration is required.
  • A valid BLS/CPR: Basic Life Support CPR Course for CPR Victims of all ages are required.
    International Professional Bodies.

Experiences

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of full-time clinical training and working experience post registration in a government or other private health facilities is required.
  • Clinical-related work experience prior to commencing postgraduate training is desirable.
  • Ideally, employee should demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Previous experience in Research & Publication in the field of medical oncology is highly desirable.

Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement

  • Post certification training in some specialized field, fellowship training in a hospital or university different from the institute of training.
  • In-depth knowledge of oncology care and treatment protocols, including current clinical guidelines, evidence-based practices, and emerging trends in oncology research.
  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulations and standards, and adherence to clinical safety protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess complex oncology cases, interpret diagnostic results, and make data-driven decisions in patient care and treatment planning.
  • Proficient in multidisciplinary team collaboration, with the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals in complex oncology cases.
  • Familiarity with patient-centered care approaches, ensuring holistic management of patients through physical, psychological, and social support, as well as facilitating family involvement in decision-making.
  • Advanced clinical skills in diagnostic procedures such as biopsies, imaging, and laboratory test interpretation, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations in oncology care, including end-of-life care, informed consent, and patient autonomy.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Acute and Elective Caseloads
    • Provide comprehensive medical oncology care for acute and elective patients.
    • Diagnose, manage, and treat complex cancer cases using evidence-based practices.
    • Develop individualized treatment plans and ensure continuity of patient care.
    • Conduct regular follow-up reviews to monitor treatment progress and outcomes.
  • Patient Referrals and Ward Management
    • Assess and manage patient referrals from internal and external healthcare providers.
    • Conduct inpatient ward rounds and oversee ongoing patient management.
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary care with relevant clinical teams and departments.
    • Ensure timely documentation, communication, and discharge planning for patients.
  • Oncology Patient Assessment
    • Perform detailed clinical evaluations and diagnostic assessments for oncology patients.
    • Formulate and implement appropriate oncology treatment and management plans.
    • Monitor patient responses to treatment and modify plans where clinically necessary.
    • Provide counseling and guidance to patients and families regarding treatment options and prognosis.
  • Procedural Support and Specialists Collaboration
    • Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and other specialists in patient care.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions for complex oncology cases.
    • Provide expert oncology input and support during specialized procedures and interventions.
    • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and departmental service development.
