JPMC Celebrates World In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Day 2024

2nd August 2024Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) marked World IVF Day 2024 with a special event by Reproductive Medicine Unit (RMU) on Friday 2nd August 2024, highlighting the transformative impact of in vitro fertilization on reproductive medicine and offering hope to couples facing infertility challenges.

The celebration was honored by the presence of the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health in the capacity of Executive Director of JPMC. Representatives from the Ministry of Health, private clinics, senior management and staff were also in attendance.

Dr. Chitra Karat, Head of the Department and Consultant of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Reproductive Medicine Unit, opened the event with a welcoming remark, followed by an address from the Guest of Honour.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar emphasized, “Today underscores the dedication of medical professionals and researchers who continually push the boundaries of reproductive health. Looking ahead, it is crucial that we support and advocate for advancements in fertility treatments, ensuring equity and access for all.” He further highlighted that achieving the required standards and quality in IVF treatment efficiently is a complex process that necessitates interdepartmental collaborations.

The event highlighted the importance of holistic care for couples undergoing IVF, emphasizing the need for mental and physical well-being throughout the treatment process. Experts stressed that proper self-care, a healthy lifestyle, and effective stress management are crucial factors that can influence IVF success rates, alongside age, genetics, and underlying conditions.

The celebration concluded with an exhibition showcasing the various roles and processes within the Reproductive Medicine Unit, providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of JPMC’s IVF services.
