19 March 2025 – The Medical Social Work (MSW) Department of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) proudly celebrated World Social Work Day 2025 in Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre’s building in Jerudong. This annual event highlighted the vital role of social workers in fostering community well-being and global solidarity.

World Social Work Day is celebrated globally on the third Tuesday of March each year, uniting social workers worldwide to promote a shared message of compassion, resilience, and interconnectedness. The theme for 2025, “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing,” emphasised the importance of bridging generational gaps, fostering mutual understanding, and building a sustainable future where all age groups thrive together. The event showcased the strength of community support, empowerment, and the interconnectedness of individuals in overcoming challenges.

The event was officially launched by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dr Meera Sahib Kabeer, Chief Medical Officer of JPMC. The ceremony was attended by JPMC’s Senior Management Team, Heads of Departments, staff members, patients, and caregivers.

The event opened with a welcoming remarks by Yang Mulia Dr Muhd Hiza Wardy bin Haji Abdul Halim, Director of General Medical Services, who highlighted the indispensable role of social workers. He stated, “Social workers play a vital role in supporting individuals, families, and communities to overcome challenges and enhance their well-being. These dedicated professionals work across diverse settings, addressing the social, emotional, and economic issues that individuals face daily. Their tireless efforts remind us of the power of compassion and collaboration in building stronger, more resilient societies.”

Dr Muhd Hiza Wardy further emphasised that the gathering to commemorate World Social Work Day aligned with the 2025 theme, “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing.” He explained that the concept of intergenerational well-being demonstrated how societies thrive when generations are deeply connected, supporting one another’s needs and growing together throughout life.

This year’s celebration began with a launching ceremony at the Lecture Theatre, followed by an exhibition in the lobby of PJSC’s building showcasing social work activities and MSW’s stakeholders. The event also featured food vendors under MSW, including invited patients and their families, alongside the exhibitors. The celebration is open to the public until this Friday, offering an opportunity for the community to engage and learn more about the impactful work being done.

The celebration underscored JPMC’s commitment to advancing social work values and strengthening bonds across generations to further protect those in need. The event served as an invitation to the public to honour the dedication of social workers and the resilience of the individuals and families they serve.
