Lives Saved, Futures Changed: JPMC Marks World Blood Donor Day 2025

13 June 2025 – Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) proudly commemorated World Blood Donor Day 2025 with a meaningful ceremony held today, following the global theme: Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Save Lives. The annual event brought together blood donors, healthcare professionals, government officials, sponsors, and members of the community to honour the life-saving gift of voluntary blood donation.

The event commenced with the arrival of distinguished guests, including Yang Mulia Dr Hj Muhd Syafiq Bin Abdullah, Director of The Brunei Cancer Centre in his capacity as Acting Chief Medical Officer of Jerudong Park Medical Centre, who attended as the Guest of Honour. Among the notable distinguished attendees were Mr. Kittivudh Pinyowit, Deputy Head of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy,the Royal Thai Embassy; Senior Management of JPMC; the Acting Director of Laboratory Services RIPAS; Head of Blood Donation Centre RIPAS, and dedicated blood donors.

Following the opening recital of Doa, Yang Mulia Dr Awang Haji Mohamad bin Haji Kassim, Head of the Laboratory Department, addressed the attendees. He emphasised the donors’ vital contribution to healthcare, “Even the simplest act of generosity by donating blood can be the difference between life and death for someone in need. Today, we proudly honour our Top 10 blood donors, who have collectively donated over 513 times.” He further highlighted the ongoing challenges of periodic shortages, particularly during emergencies, and on how technological solutions like the BloodKad application enhance the centre’s ability to respond effectively.

Building upon the recognition of the donors’ vital roles, Yang Mulia Dr Hj Syafiq bin Abdullah, also paid tribute to both the donors and the healthcare teams working behind the scenes in his remarks, “In 2024 alone, our hospital saw 3,740 donors come forward, resulting in 3,631 blood products transfused for more than 1,500 patients.” He further honored the donors as unsung heroes, emphasising how their generosity directly enables successful surgical outcomes – from emergency trauma cases to life-saving transplants.

The event proceeded with the Donor Recognition and Appreciation Ceremony, celebrating the Top 10 Blood Donors for their unwavering commitment and dedication, while certificates of appreciation were presented to sponsors who contributed to the success of the event.
