28 July 2025 – Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) launched its annual Employee Wellbeing Week today with the theme “Safety Starts With Us”. Officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health and Chairman of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC). Now in its third year, the flagship event continues to champion a culture where the wellbeing of employees is placed at the heart of healthcare delivery.
This year’s theme, “Safety Starts With Us,” underscores JPMC’s commitment to fostering a workplace where safety goes beyond protocols and procedures. In his opening remarks, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham emphasised that true safety lives in culture – in the way we treat each other, in creating a space for honest conversations and in allowing ourselves to be guided and understood.
Yang Berhormat Dato iterated “Safety is not a campaign. It starts with how we treat one another. It starts with what we model. And if we get it right, it won’t just start with us. It will stay with us.”
During the launch, JPMC unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening its culture of care and safety. Among them is Time4Me Leave, a dedicated one-week break encouraging staff to take time for rest, the introduction of Psychological First Aiders to provide peer support within teams and expanded medical benefits that now include aesthetic care and access to inhouse visiting consultants. Collectively, these efforts signal a more holistic approach to wellbeing, recognising that caring for employees means supporting both their physical health and emotional resilience.
This year’s event also carries a strong sustainability message, with proceeds supporting Green Brunei and participating vendors committing to reduce plastic waste. Employees are likewise encouraged to bring their own tumblers, containers and reusable bags. Through
sustainable practices, JPMC is nurturing a culture where every choice contributes to a safer, healthier tomorrow.
During Employee Wellbeing Week, employees were invited to take part in a diverse programme of talks, workshops and classes covering mental health, physical fitness, financial literacy and a sense of purpose, designed to nurture every pillar of wellbeing – safety, mind, purpose and body.

The importance of embedding safety into workplace culture was also underscored by JPMC’s Chief People Officer, Mohammad Salehin bin Haji Basir, who reflected on why this shift is especially critical in healthcare.
“In healthcare, it’s imperative for medical staff to be in the right set of mind, especially when treating patients,” he said. “Taking good care of yourself first means you can take better care of others and ultimately, happy staff lead to happy patients.”
He also highlighted how JPMC’s wellbeing efforts are shaping the organisation’s employer brand and boosting collaboration across teams:
“There has been empirical evidence to show how wellbeing initiatives translate to team performance. What usually constitutes good team performance is not due to individual technical skills but are usually the belonging and safety cues within the team dynamics.”
The four-day event from 28th to 31st July 2025, served not only to foster a positive and supportive work environment but also as part of a retention strategy to celebrate the dedication of JPMC’s employees, recognising that caring for those who care for others is at the heart of quality healthcare.
