1 February 2020 – Breast cancer is one of the primary and leading cause of cancer in the Sultanate of Brunei. Approximately 130 women out of 510 cancer cases were diagnosed in their lifetime from breast cancer and 24 women out of 510 cases died from breast cancer. Clinically, performing Mammogram or Ultrasound Breast is the recommended way to detect breast cancer.
Mammogram is a screening tool for early detection of breast cancer and gold standard screening according to World Health Organization (WHO) for women aged 40 and above. Performing it annually starting at age 40 is the best strategy to avert an early breast cancer death. While ultrasound can be as effective as mammogram in detecting breast cancer in women, and even more accurate in some cases. Mammogram is still advisable to screen for tumors and other breast abnormalities.
Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall as stated in American Institute for Cancer Research. To ensure and maintain your breast health, The Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) provides patient care equipped with the state-of-the-art screening facilities.
In conjunction with World Cancer Day celebrated annually every 4th February, The Department of Diagnostic Imaging, JPMC is offering Breast Screening promotion for women of all ages commencing from 3rd February 2020 until 14th March 2020.
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging is open from Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 12:00pm, and from 1:00pm to 5:00pm (12:00pm to 2:00pm closed for Friday prayers).
