6th November 2024 – Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) and Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) jointly commemorated World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) on Wednesday, 6th November 2024. This year’s theme, “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety,” with the slogan “Get it right, Get it safe!” emphasised the crucial role of effective communication and collaboration among healthcare providers in preventing diagnostic errors. The theme also highlights the critical importance of correct and timely diagnosis in ensuring patient safety.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health, in his capacity as the Chairman of JPMC and PJSC, and Executive Director of JPMC, officiated the event as the Guest of Honour. Also in attendance were the senior management teams and staff of JPMC and PJSC.
To further enhance their commitment to patient care, both institutions undertook on a series of joint donation drive to provide home testing devices, such as glucometers and blood pressure monitors, to patients in need – empowering them to take charge of their health through self-monitoring. This was shared by Jeffry Damit, Head of Quality and Patient Safety of JPMC and PJSC, during the welcoming remarks.
The event also saw the launch of educational videos and leaflets on home testing devices. These initiatives are part of both organisations’ ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility to equip patients with the knowledge and tools necessary for ‘at-home’ health monitoring. By providing affordable testing strips and hands-on demonstration during home visits, the initiative aims to ensure long-term sustainability of the self-monitoring efforts for these patients.
“Errors in diagnosis can have severe consequences,” said Jeffry Damit, Head of Quality and Patient Safety at JPMC and PJSC. “By prioritising accurate and timely diagnosis, we can significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce preventable harm.”
Additionally, a new policy on critical result reporting was implemented for PJSC to improve efficiency and timeliness of reporting. This policy is aligned with the Joint Commission International (JCI) on International Patient Safety Goal (IPSG). Meanwhile, JPMC has appointed chapter leaders and co-leaders to spearhead the organization’s efforts toward JCI re-accreditation, with a focus on patient safety as the ultimate goal.
Through these initiatives, JPMC and PJSC reaffirm their commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and ensuring the safety of every patient.
