OPENING CEREMONY OF THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL NCD EXHIBITION & CONFERENCE 2025 “BRIDGING HEALTHCARE AND COMMUNITIES”

Wednesday, 16 Rabiulakhir 1447H / 08 October 2025 – The International Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Exhibition & Conference 2025 officially opened today at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas, marking a significant milestone in Brunei Darussalam’s national efforts to address the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Present as the Guest of Honour is Yang Mulia Dr Hajah Rafidah binti Gharif, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Co-Chairperson of the event.

The event began with a welcoming speech delivered by Yang Mulia Dr Haji Muhammad Syafiq bin Abdullah, Director of The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) and also Co-Chair of the Conference. The highlight of the speech was the commitment from the Ministry of Health, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), and Gleneagles JPMC in addressing non-communicable diseasesand promoting a healthy lifestyle within the community.

The five-day event features over 150 speakers, including representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), covering topics such as digital health innovation, healthy ageing, obesity, cancer, stroke, mental health, and nutrition. Complementing the conference is a health exhibition involving more than 40 organisations and companies, offering interactive booths, free health screenings, and wellness activities. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of food and beverage options from over 20 local vendors throughout the week.

Following the opening ceremony, the Guest of Honour toured the exhibition area, visiting several booths including those showcasing national health initiatives and community-based wellness programmes. During the tour, the Religious Services Unit of the Renal Services Department, Ministry of Health, officially launched a new book titled “Ustaz… Ustazah… Kan Betanya…”. The book launch was marked by a signing ceremony with Yang Mulia Hajah Rohani binti Haji Abdullah, Managing Director of TAIB and the Guest of Honour, highlighting the collaboration between public institutions and private partners. The publication reflects the Ministry’s commitment to integrating spiritual care within patient support, serving as a practical guide for renal patients, their families, and healthcare providers.

The inaugural conference also recognises the valuable contributions of its sponsors, partners, and organising committees, whose collaboration and dedication were instrumental in bringing the event to fruition. Their collective efforts reflect the strong commitment across sectors in supporting Brunei Darussalam’s vision of a healthier nation through prevention, education, and innovation in healthcare.

The International NCD Exhibition & Conference 2025 serves as a timely reminder for everyone to take proactive steps towards better health, by making nutritious food choices, staying physically active, and embracing a healthy lifestyle. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the exhibition and take part in the various activities and educational sessions throughout the week in support of national efforts to combat NCDs.
