17th February 2024 – Yesterday, the Nursing Department of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) organized an event to present donations collected through various activities held in 2023, in celebration of International Nurses and Midwifery Day 2023 (INMD2023), to Learning Ladders Society (LLS) and in honor of JPMC’s 25th anniversary.
Established in 2007, Learning Ladders Society (LLS) is an NGO dedicated to supporting parents on the challenging journey of raising children diagnosed with neurological development disorders. Acknowledging the significance of this cause, the JPMC Nursing Department proactively chose to center the INMD2023 celebrations around fundraising efforts for LLS, organizing a series of diverse and engaging charitable events. These included activities such as Spinning and Zumba for charity, an international nursing and midwifery conference held in collaboration with PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences UBD, and a silent auction, all aligned with the 2023 INMD theme, ‘Our Nurses, Our Future’.
Proceeds from these activities and with generous contributions from local companies and members of the public, the INMD2023 initiative successfully collected a total amount of BND32,334.00. Without the invaluable support of the public and our sponsors, this achievement would not have been possible. Their generosity and dedication have played a pivotal role in making this endeavor a success.
The funds collected were utilized to enhance various aspects of LLS facilities, including renovations of toilets, flooring, entrance gates, provision of computers, installation of air conditioning, implementation of organized storage systems, and facilitating overseas training opportunities for LLS staff. JPMC is optimistic that these enhancements will empower LLS to effectively fulfill their mission and vision, enabling them to extend invaluable support to a greater number of parents and children nationwide.
The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health, in the capacity as Executive Director of JPMC, alongside senior management, department heads, representatives from LLS, sponsors and staffs. The event commenced with a recital of prayers, followed by a warm welcome address from Ms. Chung Yea Fui, Director of Nursing at JPMC, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to this noble cause. Ms. Chung emphasized the paramount importance of extending care beyond the confines of hospital walls, aligning with our ethos of compassion and inclusivity.
In his address, the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato, articulated the profound impact of supporting an NGO that aids autism children. He emphasized that it’s not merely an act of compassion but an investment in a brighter, more inclusive future where every child, regardless of their challenges, is given the opportunity to thrive and shine. Yang Berhormat Dato underscored the vital role of the funds raised and sponsorship, emphasizing their contribution to essential programs and services. These encompass vital initiatives such as early intervention programs, therapy services, educational resources, and research endeavors, all aimed at enriching and improving the lives of those affected by autism.
The event concluded with the official handover of the donations to LLS, followed by certificates of appreciation presented to all sponsors involved. Overall, the event served as a poignant reminder of the power of collective action and the transformative impact that compassion and support can have on the lives of those in need.
