26 September 2026 – Jerudong Park Medical Centre’s (JPMC) The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) has won the World Cancer Day 2026 SILVER AWARD for its “United by Unique” campaign, recognising its efforts to promote people-centred cancer care through creative community engagement.
The World Cancer Day Award recognises outstanding achievements and innovative practices done by organisations and countries within the global cancer-control community in leading campaigns in raising awareness on cancer and taking a people centred approach. It highlights campaigns that translate the World Cancer Day theme into meaningful action affecting cancer patients, families and everyone in the cancer community. It celebrates strong and impactful initiatives that demonstrate creativity, engage diverse stakeholders and contribute to shaping more inclusive, people-centred approaches to cancer care.
The award was announced at the World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong, held from 24 to 26 September and organised by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Founded in 1933, UICC is a Geneva-based organisation bringing together more than 1,100 member organisations across over 170 countries and territories to advance global cancer control.
JPMC’s World Cancer Day Campaign that won the Silver Award started in December 2025 and culminated on World Cancer Day on 4 February 2026, the campaign was themed “Bringing Together the Cancer Care Community Through Arts”. It brought together cancer patients, survivors, healthcare professionals, caregivers, families and the wider community to highlight the importance of recognising each person’s unique experience with cancer.
During the campaign, a total of 42 cancer warriors and survivors participated in art therapy sessions facilitated by a local artist and a JPMC’s rehabilitation therapist, exploring “what matters most to them”. The campaign also featured art competitions for children and youth, which received 84 entries, alongside personal journey shared by cancer survivors; and a special musical rendition by TBCC’s own staffs supported by orchestral performance from Expression Music Academy.
Participants’ feedback highlighted how the art therapy sessions provided a space for emotional expression, creativity and connection, helping participants feel supported and less isolated.
Datin Dr. Hajah Noraslinah binti Haji Ramlee, Consultant Physician and Head of Early Detection & Cancer Prevention Services (EDCPS) in JPMC, chaired the World Cancer Day 2026 campaign.
The JPMC delegation attending the World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong comprised Datin Dr. Hajah Noraslinah; Dr. Haji Zulkhairi bin Haji Mohamad, Consultant Medical Oncologist; and Sarinah binti Haji Junaidi, Clinical Charge Nurse EDCPS.
This recognition reflects the Government of Brunei Darussalam’s continued commitment to people-centred cancer care, through The Brunei Cancer Centre, JPMC, where it provides cancer services and community initiatives that support emotional wellbeing, meaningful connections and community care beyond treatment.
