6 November 2026 – The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) at Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) received the World Cancer Day 2026 Silver Award at the World Cancer Congress in Hong Kong on 26 September 2026. The award brought international
recognition to Brunei Darussalam and JPMC for a campaign that used art, music and personal stories to support people affected by cancer.
The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) presented the award for TBCC’s campaign, “Bringing Together the Cancer Care Community Through Arts”. The campaign was developed under the global World Cancer Day theme “United by
Unique”.
Datin Dr Hajah Noraslinah binti Haji Ramlee, Consultant Physician and Head of Early Detection and Cancer Prevention Services at TBCC, chaired the campaign. She received the award in Hong Kong alongside Dr Haji Zulkhairi bin Haji Mohamad,
Consultant Medical Oncologist, and Sarinah binti Haji Junaidi, Clinical Charge Nurse.
The campaign ran from December 2025 to World Cancer Day on 4 February 2026. Forty-two patients and cancer survivors took part in art therapy sessions led by Dato Shofry bin Abdul Ghafor, Director of Rainforest Gallery, and Nadiah Haji Suhaili, a
JPMC rehabilitation art therapist. Participants said the sessions gave them a way to express their feelings and helped them feel less isolated.
Art competitions for children and young people drew 84 entries. The campaign also featured stories shared by cancer survivors and a musical performance by TBCC staff with support from Expression Music Academy.
“This recognition belongs to the patients, survivors, families, colleagues and community partners who shared their experiences and helped bring the campaign to life. Their involvement reminds us to keep listening and to shape our activities around
the people we serve,” said Datin Dr Hajah Noraslinah.
JPMC recognised the TBCC team at its staff town hall on 2 November 2026. Speaking as Chairman and Executive Director of JPMC, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health, congratulated the team and
the colleagues who supported the campaign.
“Each person who comes into our care has their own experiences, concerns, and hopes. Listening to them and supporting their emotional wellbeing are essential parts of the care we provide,” he said.
