27 October 2026, Brunei Darussalam – Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) hosted representatives from Indonesia’s Siloam Hospitals Group to explore potential cooperation in regional patient care, treatment diagnosis and an opportunity to introduce the specialist care available in Brunei Darussalam provided by JPMC.
The visit followed JPMC’s engagement with a Siloam hospital in Balikpapan earlier this year. The engagement forms part of JPMC’s medical tourism efforts to develop relationships with regional healthcare providers. Understanding each other’s capabilities provides a foundation for identifying where services may complement one another and where there may be scope for future cooperation.
The delegation comprised Mr Riza Dalem, Head of International Referral, and Mr Martinus Jarman, Head of Referral, from Siloam’s Head Office in Karawaci, Indonesia. They were received by Mr Neelakannan Periyasamy, Chief Operating Officer; Dr Hj Muhd Hiza Wardy Hj Abd Halim, Director of General Medical Services; Dr Dk Norazieda Pg Hj Mohd Yassin; and other senior JPMC officials. Dr Jacob Samuel Justin, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, and Dr Hamid Naseer, Consultant Nuclear Medicine Physician, Dr. Lee Chooi Lynn, Consultant Rehabilitation Medicine, also welcomed the delegation to their respective departments during the facility tour.
Discussions focused on exploring potential areas for referral cooperation. The engagement remained introductory, allowing both organisations to become better acquainted and consider possibilities for further dialogue.
Ms Wendy Chok, Head of the International Patients Relations Unit at JPMC, said that developing regional healthcare relationships begins with understanding what each provider can offer.
“An important part of this work is helping healthcare providers in the region understand the specialist care available in Brunei, while also learning about their services and perspectives. Following our visit to Balikpapan, this exchange allowed the Siloam team to see JPMC’s facilities firsthand and become more familiar with our capabilities. We are still at an exploratory stage, but that mutual understanding gives us a basis to consider where future cooperation may benefit patients.” she said.
The tour covered rehabilitation, neuroscience, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy facilities, giving the delegation a closer view of the services introduced during the meeting.
For JPMC, regional outreach provides an opportunity to build professional relationships and explore how its services could contribute to care within the region. These introductory exchanges support the groundwork for medical tourism by increasing familiarity with Brunei’s specialist healthcare capabilities among regional providers.
