9 May 2025 – Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) launched its International Nurses and Midwifery Day (INMD) 2025 celebrations today with a ‘Majlis Doa Kesyukuran’, marking the start of a month-long wellness and charitable initiatives to honour the dedication of nurses and midwives while supporting vulnerable communities.

The launching commemoration was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, the Minister of Health in his capacity as the Chairman of the Executive Board of JPMC. The ceremony then commenced with the Recitation of Surah Yaasin, Tahlil and Doa Kesyukuran led by Ustaz Ishkandar bin Haji Buntar, followed by charitable donations to orphans and individuals with special needs.

This year, the International Nurses Day theme is ‘Our Nurses, Our Future, Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies’. Reflecting on the theme, JPMC’s Director of Nursing, Ms Chung Yei Fui emphasised the significance, “Today, we honour the indispensable role of our nurses and midwives in modern healthcare. As the cornerstone of patient care and the backbone of our healthcare system, their expertise and compassion extend beyond healing individuals – they strengthen and uplift entire communities, especially those who are in need.”

The spiritual commencement established a meaningful foundation for upcoming events, reinforcing JPMC’s commitment to its healthcare teams and social responsibility.

Among the highlights of this year’s celebration is ‘Move for Hope’, a public Zumba series culminating in a flagship community event (open to both JPMC staff and the public), complemented with ‘Spin for Hope’ indoor cycling sessions. These fitness initiatives serve dual purposes of promoting wellness while also raising funds for the ‘Ri’ayah Wa Mahabah’ Program (RWMP) under the Department of Schools of Ministry of Education. This year’s commemoration will also feature the INMD 2025 Conference which provides professional development opportunities, as well as special appreciation events to acknowledge staff contributions to patient care.

Extending beyond celebration, JPMC’s initiative addresses educational inequities through provision of school supplies, uniforms, and tuition assistance for underprivileged students, coupled with public awareness campaigns about barriers to education access.
