Jerudong, 30 October 2026 – The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) commemorated Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a programme supporting patients’ emotional and spiritual wellbeing, bringing together women receiving care at JPMC, including those with breast cancer.

Themed “Bloom Through Every Season: Resilience, Hope and Everyday Strength”, the gathering took place at TBCC’s Early Detection and Cancer Prevention Services (EDCPS). Organised in collaboration with Al-Riyada Consulting (ARC), through its faith-based content and community arm, The ‘Ilm Journal, it combined guided reflection with creative activities and opportunities for participants to connect.

Speaking on the significance of the commemoration, Datin Dr Hjh Noraslinah Hj Ramlee, Chairperson of the organising committee and Head of EDCPS at TBCC, said: “The experience of illness extends beyond appointments and treatment. Patients may face uncertainty, worry or loneliness, and recognising these concerns is an important part of caring for them. Through this gathering, we hope to remind our patients that they are valued as individuals and have a community they can turn to for encouragement and support.”

This emphasis on everyday support was reflected in “Strength in Small Steps”, a session facilitated by Ustazah Siti Syuhaidah binti Haji Mohd Yusoff. Welcoming women of different faiths and backgrounds, the session explored living with uncertainty and practical ways to find comfort through personal reflection and support from others.

“Being resilient does not mean that we must feel strong every day. Hope and worry can exist together. Sometimes, strength is taking one small step, allowing ourselves to rest or accepting help. We hope participants leave with a simple practice or reminder that brings comfort on difficult days,” said Ustazah Siti Syuhaidah.

Alongside the reflection, participants enjoyed “Pass the Smile”, a light introductory activity, and “Petal of Feelings”, in which individually decorated petals formed a shared flower. “A Moment to Reset” offered a gentle grounding exercise to bring the morning to a close. Participation and sharing were optional throughout, allowing each woman to engage at her own pace.

The commemoration formed part of TBCC’s observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, recognising the importance of patients’ wellbeing throughout their care.
