JPMC Strengthens Rehabilitation Quality Improvement Through Lecture Series

29 June 2026 – Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), through the Brunei Neuroscience Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC), held the first session of its Medical Rehabilitation Lecture Series focused on international rehabilitation accreditation and quality improvement frameworks. 

The inaugural session, titled “Introduction to Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)”, was conducted as part of JPMC’s ongoing initiatives to enhance rehabilitation service delivery, multidisciplinary collaboration, and exposure to international best practices within JPMC which will also benefit our patients and the general  

Opening remarks and introduction of the speaker were delivered by Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zaliha binti Omar, the Senior Consultant of Rehabilitation Medicine in JPMC, followed by a presentation from Mr Terrence Carolan, Managing Director of Medical Rehabilitation and Aging Services at CARF International.

In her opening remarks, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zaliha binti Omar highlighted the importance of strengthening rehabilitation services through continuous quality improvement and alignment with international standards. She noted that structured quality frameworks such as CARF Accreditation support healthcare teams in delivering more person-centred services and improving measurable patient outcomes. She further underscored that adopting such approaches will strengthen rehabilitation service delivery in Brunei Darussalam and support its continued development in line with global best practices. 

Building on this, Mr Carolan shared insights into rehabilitation accreditation frameworks in his lecture, highlighting key principles including performance improvement, person-centred care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and structured quality assurance processes within rehabilitation services. 

The lecture session also provided an overview of international approaches to rehabilitation standards and highlighted considerations relevant to ongoing quality improvement and service development within rehabilitation programmes at JPMC.

The Medical Rehabilitation Lecture Series forms part of JPMC’s internal capacity-building efforts aimed at strengthening clinical capability, supporting continuous professional development, and fostering shared learning across multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams. 

Through this initiative, JPMC continues its commitment to enhancing rehabilitation services through structured learning, interdisciplinary engagement, and alignment with international clinical standards.
